228 Albert Street, Waterloo

Mr. Aqeel was the principal architect for 228 Albert Street, a 12-story residential project near University Avenue and Albert Street. Due to its close proximity to a prominent intersection and impressive architecture, we wanted to create a unique project on this interior lot. By pushing the mass of the building north, we were able to create a corner condition within this interior lot, providing public space that is visible and inviting from University Avenue.

The tower is wrapped in cladding inspired by a weaving pattern. This protects the glazed tower from the prevailing northwest winds while exposing the southernmost corner that overlooks the woonerf (living street).
